Holidays can be a hectic and stressful time, let alone when you’re preparing for a move. Life events don’t always happen with your convenience in mind, which may lead to packing and preparing at a time you’d otherwise be planning celebrations. There are ways you can make moving during the holidays much easier, and we’ve got three tips for you.
1. Plan your moving month
Do you need to move immediately, or do you have more time? Give yourself at least a month to pack without rushing, so you can keep things organized. If you’re in a hurry, consider hiring a moving company, or recruit friends and family to help. No matter how much time you have, make a plan and try to stick to it to lessen your stress.
2. Celebrate outside your home
If you look forward to the holidays, don’t let your move cause you to miss out on the fun. Consider gathering with friends or family outside of your home, or if you do have guests over, keep your expectations realistic. Relaxing and connecting with your loved ones should be your priority while you celebrate.
3. Don’t pack up all your decorations
You can still celebrate with your favorite decorations on display. If you usually go all-out with your holiday decorating, simply keep it minimal as you prepare to move. This might mean hanging just a wreath or lights to keep tear-down quick and easy. No one wants to fight with tangled Christmas tree lights while trying to pack for moving!
