Through our Teacher Appreciation nominations, we were able to see exactly how our teachers our impacting our kids and community. We want to recognize each nomination that has come in. With over 1700+ unique nominations, we are sharing the answers to our question posed: “Why does this teacher make you smile?”. The blogs are organized by last name of the teacher.

Teacher: Anne Kalenowicz, Southwest Career & Technical Academy

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Coach K is the best teacher at southwest. When I come to her class and I’m having a bad day I feel much better and less stressed and worried. Coach is always concerned when it comes to the students she is teaching and knows when something is wrong with them unlike most teachers. She is always in a bright mood, even days when she is down, she makes a way to make the class smile. #RIPGILBERT

Teacher: Jacob Keck, Canyon Springs High School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Every morning he greets me. I could not ask for a better next neighbor. He is always engaging with his students and says hello to them as the walk through the door. On his 2nd year of teaching (first year came in amidst Covid) his students are learning so much about photography. Jacob in constantly driving for updated products for his students to use. His students are evolving into young professional photographers.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? This teacher makes me smile because even when she is down, she puts others up, when her day is bad, she makes others good. She is the teacher you never knew you wanted.

Teacher: Tammy Kellen, Pinecrest Academy St. Rose

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Mrs. Kellen is without a doubt a true dedicated educator. Not only is she a teacher but she’s a SPED teacher whose genuine dedication and love for her students shows every day. Her patience and understanding are beyond anything I’ve ever seen.

She shows up every day, tackles the hard days with grace and truly deserves the world! The impact she’s made on her students to motivate them to succeed is amazing!

Teacher: Jessica Kelly, Southwest Career and Technical Academy

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? This teacher is able to make me smile because of her energy. She creates a safe space for her students and is able to make history fun for everyone. Her lessons are always so in-depth. She treats us like a human being who is growing and who can be knowledgeable and passionate about topics. She really does mean the world to her students.

She has this really bright attitude and is actually really interested in the subject she teaches. Mrs. Kelly makes learning about history fun and always does her best for her students every day.

Ms. Kelly has done so much for me and our class. She walks in everyday with a positive attitude and is willing to teach us the best she could. Although she is going to be absent for her court duties, she is still trying to help us by grading our assignments and giving us feedback even while she is at home. She is a symbol of what all teachers should be like. Her jokes are funny, and she tries to make her talks as relatable as it could be to the current time. We even have discussions in class and get interactive with her lectures. Ms. Kelly is a great teacher and with the hard times that are going on right now in the world and the problems in her life, I feel like she deserves more than what she gets for her job.

She keeps it real. Never have I had a teacher full of as much honesty as she does. She’s so fun and makes it exciting to learn. The lessons she teachers are stuck into my head because she actually helps me learn something new rather than just throw words at me. I’ve learned so much from her and I’m happy I’m one of her students.

This teacher’s class is always the highlight of my day. She cares about her students and is always reliable. She continues to be there for all her students and is always considerate.

She is a very fun teacher and teaches very well.

Ms. Kelly creates a space where learning is no longer worksheets and textbooks, but an intimate conversation that helps her students grow as a person.  She uplifts her students to bring out the best in them, with a long line of students forever grateful for her influence. It is without a doubt that her love for learning has touched everyone lucky enough to be in her class.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Ms. Kelso makes me smile because of the pure love she shows for all of the children she teaches. She takes time to work with kids of all abilities and seems to genuinely enjoy interacting with them. She recognizes the potential in kids that others may not see.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Ms. Kinkead goes above and beyond. I talked to her about the books my daughter was reading, they were too easy. She goes out of her way to send home special books to challenge Penelope.

Ms. Kinkead has created a warm, friendly, and productive classroom for our kindergarteners. It’s been wonderful to watch our daughter and her classmates blossom this year.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Dean says that Mrs. Koch gives them always gives them snacks, tells stories, and make his class laugh.  Mrs. Koch always helps her class during their studies while also taking the time to play with them during recess.

My son adores her, and I think she is a very kind teacher.

My daughter always comes home happy, with a story of something fun she did for them, she always makes the class exciting for the kids.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? She always tries her bet to make class enjoyable. She is the most inclusive teacher I have had and always creates a comfortable environment.

Teacher: Melissa Krueger, Bob Miller Middle School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Ms. Krueger makes me smile and be really happy because she will always be ready to crack a joke and tell funny stories while teaching and it makes it really fun to be in her class learning things about history and having fun with my peers. She lives in the moment and nothing else.

This teacher makes me smile because she has turned History into my favorite subject, and she makes learning easy and fun.

She is very goated and I have a 100 percent in the class because she is such a goated teacher and she is fun. I am bad at math, but this saves my grade thank you Mrs. Krueger for being too good.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Ms. Kublal is just so kind and fun. She was my 3rd grade teacher, and she was awesome. She would do Quizezz (a fun game like Kahoot!) and give us a tic tac whenever we had answered correctly. I love Ms. Kublal.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? When my son just realized that when he was going to the next grade, he won’t be in Ms., Kutas class anymore. He started to cry, and I asked him why are you crying? He said because she taught me a lot, how to read, and math and my past teachers didn’t do that with me. Kutas is a assume teacher she really cares about me, and she deserve to be picked. I’m very great full to have a teacher like her l, thank you for making me a better person and for the love you share.

Teacher:  James Kuzma, East Career Technical Academy

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Dr. Kuzma is easily my favorite teacher of high school, and my favorite math teacher ever. He’s hilarious with the most dad jokes and stories you can think of. He always goes out of his way to make sure you understand the math we’re doing. I always look forward to going into his class because he always has a smile on his face. Gives great advice and always encourages us to push ourselves, for example he encourages us to take pursue math in college and always keep learning. Dr. Kuzma is a great teacher and definitely my favorite teacher.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? He makes me smile because he always checks up on me in class to make sure I understand what he is teaching and whenever I don’t understand he goes through it slowly with me. He also is very kind and cares about his students. An extra quality about him is that he teaches so well, I never did good in math throughout elementary and middle school but ever since he’s been my teacher, I’ve only gotten A’s and I understand better.

He makes me smile because he’s very chill with us and he is nice, and he helps me when I am confused with something. When I do something right, he says good job and it makes me happy because I’m not good at math. This is the highest math grade in my life I have ever gotten, and it is all thanks to him :3

I also like that he gives us breaks towards the end of class. One last thing I like is that he said my art looked good and that I have a lot of talent. 🙂

Teacher: Ian Karvo, Schofield Middle School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Mr. Karvo is always made my son feel at home in his class. This is important because my sone started this year afraid to go to school because he didn’t want to catch Covid, and he was afraid of if he couldn’t breathe with a mask on and needed a break would he get in trouble. Daily Mr. Karvo has knocked away all anxieties my son has and now my sone jumps out of bed to start his day in Mr. Karvo’s 1st period. Also, I have a daughter at the school who has felt unsafe and uncomfortable in the school. The actions I have seen Mr. Karvo do and the words I have heard him say help me to know he is always helping to be sure the girls are safe and feel safe at school. Which has helped her, and he isn’t one of her teachers. Which in this day and age there needs to be more male teachers like this! You can tell he loves to teach the students and is in his job for the right reasons! Thank you, Mr. Karvo!

Mrs. Kewish is not only a kind teacher that creates engaging math lessons, but she is absolutely data driven, doing her best to help her students have academic success! Parents, students and coworkers love her! If anyone knows how to make math fun, it’s Adry!

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Ms. Krueger makes me smile every day, because she always helps me whenever I need help. She always makes the atmosphere of the classroom really positive and is one of my favorite teachers. She is a really amazing teacher.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Ms. Kubik has been an amazing teacher to my daughter, before Adelynn was in her class she couldn’t read fluently since being in her class she now reads a book to her baby siblings every night without a problem.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Ms. Kulaszewski makes me smile because because she is so thoughtful of me and everybody else. She loves to help the whole class and she is very caring and kind. She is an amazing teacher!

She is extremely motivated and always willing to help her students understand when they are confused or unsure about something they are learning and is passionate on making sure the first step in her students’ education as a kindergarten teacher is memorable and will set them up for success going into first grade.
