Teacher: Toni Gasbarrino, Basic Academy
Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? This teacher makes me smile because of how helpful she is, not just in class in everything. She makes sure I understand everything in class and in life. She makes me smile by being there and making me laugh when I am having a bad day in school. She makes me smile because she is just an all-around amazing teacher and person!
She is super sweet; any student can get along with her. Anytime I’ve gone through depression her class was all I looked forward to. I’ve had Miss G for 3 years, I am a senior this year and the only year I didn’t have her was sophomore year but I had the class right next to hers, so I’d always stop by to say hello or if I have any questions I come to her, just like everyone else. Everyone loves her being around and when I heard the news that she was moving to brown middle school I almost cried honestly. She cares so much about all of her students, and she gets to know them very well. She motivates everyone to do their work and even when you have those students who never to their work, they still feel a connection with the teacher that helps them get the questions they have answered or anything they need done. She’s like the mom of the school and when she goes, I will miss her very much. I plan on doing a surprise, so she has something in memory of her favorite class ever.
My teacher makes me smile just by being herself. She is like a second mom. My teacher is amazing in her own way and the way she isn’t like other teachers. She acts like a mom to everyone, and she isn’t serious all the time. Her personality is great because not only does she act like a mom to not only me but everyone, I have a lot of love for her, and I’m blessed I got to spend all 4 years of high-school with her.

She’s amazingly smart, witty, and kind.
She’s been such a great advocate for her students! She’s constantly encouraging them to be their most authentic selves, to be proud of where they are, and it boosts confidence so much.

Even after finishing middle school and getting ready to move out of state, Dr. Ginsburg constantly checks up on me and still cares about me as a person. She will always be my favorite teacher and she deserves all the recognition possible. I know for a fact she cares about all of her students and helps them to be the greatest they can be.

He’s a good teacher I think, most might think not i hear a lot of people that say otherwise. but I think otherwise really, I think that he can really be a good teacher, he has mostly high expectations for people. I think it’s the first time anyone’s had high exceptions for me. they think that I’m bad at something because I’m disabled in some way. but he treats me the same as the others nothing different at all. so, I think that it is nice that he doesn’t treat me any different at all. all together he’s nice and very lean on things so I think he deserves it.
He’s funny.
His jokes.
I make myself smile every day I get to come into a classroom and work with kids. I chose to come work in one of the hardest schools in one of the highest needs areas of Las Vegas. Currently I teach out of a portable with 40+ kids in most of my classes and make sure that on top of my 200+ students I come in everyday at 6am to tutor before school. I then stay until at least 3:30 to tutor kids after school. I then come in on Saturdays to help kids earn enough credits to go to high school. These kids are funny, smart, and have unlimited potential and working with them makes me smile every day.
Lloyd always makes me smile with his energy, jokes, and commitment to the students. I’ve seen him eat bugs, shave his head, get hit with eggs, paint his toenails, and take a pie to the face. He will do anything for a laugh, but more importantly to get his students to learn and grow as humans. He truly is committed to making better humans in his classes and school. Last year he helped deliver over 3000 school meals, set up over 100 WIFI hotspots, and furnish 5 apartments. He was even features on the Tamron Hall Show for his work. His kids are always smiling and run into his class faster than they run out of it. He makes me smile by always checking on me and I know he is always available as a resource for anything and everything I could possibly need.
Lloyd Goldberg is the best teacher I have ever seen in a classroom. He is willing to do anything to help his students or other teachers. He is the guy who will let kids shave his head, or eat bugs, or throw water balloons at him just to get them to read more. This year he collected over $5000 worth of donations just to turn around and give them to his students for incentives to do better. He is the teacher who never yells, always jokes, and the kids know that every Friday he will be at the school with a smile, a special horrible dad joke, and a Hawaiian shirt. Lloyd comes to school early to do before school tutoring. He stays late to do after-school tutoring. He come in on Saturdays to do credit retrieval and work with kids to paint over graffiti in the neighborhood. Every single day Lloyd covers for teachers who are absent that don’t have a substitute. This would be so amazing for him to win because he has been a 5-time finalist for the Heart of Education Award, and never won. His hard work and dedication to the students should be recognized.
Lloyd is a funny guy and lets me make fun of him and doesn’t get mad all the time. We always make jokes, but he makes sure I get all of my work done. He makes sure to buy me books whenever he can. That makes me smile.
Lloyd is the funniest teacher I have met at Cashman. He always has a smile on his face even when he is covering other classes or working in the dean’s office. He is always laughing even when he is breaking up fights to telling kids to stop cursing or being racist. He is able to see the bright side of everyday even when teaching about the Holocaust or dealing with kids drawing swastikas on the walls. It is so clear that he truly loves coming to school every day and is always checking up on teachers to see if they are ok and asking what he can do to help them out. It seems like he never sleeps because he comes in at 6am for before school tutoring and then stays late for after school tutoring. He comes in on Saturdays to help kids with credit retrieval or cleaning up the campus and painting over graffiti. When I am having a hard time with work or my home life, Lloyd always sends me a text or comes to my room just to let me talk and vent. No one can be in a bad mood around him, and he always makes me smile whenever I get to teach with him. Please recognize him for everything he does at Cashman Middle School. We need more teachers like Lloyd in places like this.
mister is nice sometimes but tells jokes and lets me work but not always but doesn’t get me in trouble all the time only when i really mess up he is funny and likes teaching.
Mr. Goldberg is super chill with me. I don’t make it to his first period class, but he isn’t mean about it and just tells me how to do my work and I don’t even have to do all of it. he helps me when I come to Saturday school and tries to make me laugh and feel happy.
Mr. Goldberg keeps calling my dad, but he is trying to get me to learn. he always says hello to me and calls me doctor when I come in the room. we get to play games and that makes me smile.
Mr. Goldberg is so funny I laugh the whole time we are in class even when we are doing serious topics like the Holocaust. He makes the learning fun and I like coming to his class. Monday, he let me learn from sitting under my desk and it was funny.
Mr. Goldberg always makes me smile because of his corny jokes. They are so bad, but he won’t stop. He even is making jokes so that we can learn something. He does it with vocabulary like synonym rolls. He makes me smile because he makes us laugh while we are learning.
Mr. Goldberg always makes me smile every day. He tells jokes and sings and dances just to get me to laugh. He helps with my homework and buys me gifts when I do well.
Mr. Goldberg calls me Princess Glitter Sparkles. I thought it was because he didn’t know my name, but he actually just wants to make me smile. I feel bad that I don’t wake up in time to get to his class most days, but he comes to find me in lunch to see if I am ok. He even texts my mom to make sure I am not sick. He is my favorite teacher even though I barely go to his class.
Mr. Goldberg is a really good teacher. He showed us our MAP data and we set goals on how to improve. He is the first teacher to ever do that with me. No matter how low someone was he found something good to say about them and their potential. He makes me smile most when we get to play Gimkit or Blooket games and win prizes.
Mr. Goldberg is different from any other teacher. He doesn’t yell at us and always makes jokes to get us to pay attention and learn stuff. He even Facetimed with me when I was in Miami to make sure I was ok and knew how to do my work. Other teachers don’t even know when I’m out and he did a video call with me at the beach. I want him to win.
Mr. Goldberg is so much fun. He makes us laugh all the time because he can be so savage for kids trying to flex on him. No one messes with Mr. Goldberg, and he protects the kids that work hard.
Mr. Goldberg is the best teacher; I like the way he teaches us. He is nice.
Mr. Goldberg is the best teacher. I don’t come to school much but whenever he sees me, he has a big smile on his face and is excited to see me. He gives me a nickname and calls me Kardashian and really wants me to pass his class. I like coming to his class and he makes me smile.
Mr. Goldberg is the best. he always makes sure I am finishing my work and talks to my parents so I can keep up my grades and keep playing basketball. He even played the students in the student/teacher basketball game. He likes being funny and makes us happy to be in class. I did a lot of growth in his class.
Mr. Goldberg is the most chill teacher. He never marks me late even when I am. He even comes out of his classroom to grab me so I can get to class on time. He never gets mad and keeps telling me how smart I am and all the stuff I can do. Last month he mailed a postcard to my house so my mom could see that he thought I was smart. I don’t like going to any other class than his. Give him this prize.
Mr. Goldberg is very nice and funny. because he always wears funny shirts, and he gives us funny nicknames and he makes learning fun.
Mr. Goldberg knows a lot about me and tell me how interesting I am. He asks about Ramadan and really wants to learn about wheat my family does. he lets us think and argue in class even when other teachers wouldn’t let us and talks about how some of the things, we say might be racist, but he doesn’t get angry or get us in trouble. He just wants us to learn stuff and makes jokes all the time to keep us paying attention. He makes me smile every day and feel safe and I want him to win.
Mr. Goldberg makes me and everyone else laugh, he is a nice teacher in general, he makes learning fun for us, he is very supportive, and encourages us to do our best in everything.

Mr. Goldberg makes me smile because he’s very fun in the way he teaches and in his jokes. Mr. Goldberg is also very chill.
Mr. Goldberg makes me smile because he makes me feel safe. he doesn’t yell or get mad and lets me keep my hood up in class and doesn’t kick me out for it. The other teachers are mean, and I don’t learn anything, but Mr. Goldberg is nice, and I know stuff about reading and the holocaust now. He tells me I am smart and that makes me smile.
Mr. Goldberg will do ANYTHING to get his students to learn, like dance and juggle and eat bugs. I worked with Mr. Goldberg in a school program partnership with international rugby teams, and his school hosted Fiji in 2016, just after Cyclone Winston, and Mr. Goldberg worked with the Ambassador’s office to send relief packages. Mr. Goldberg is giving and kind and cannot help but make me smile.
Mr. Goldberg always makes jokes meanwhile teaching us and brings up our mood.
Mr. Goldberg is super nice. he hung up all the drawings I made for him, and he always asks for more which makes me smile. he lets me sleep in class when I don’t feel good, or I don’t get to sleep at home, and he lets me tell him my stories and makes me feel good being his student.

This teacher is the funniest and most caring teacher at his school or in Las Vegas. Not only has he won a bunch of awards he is always doing things for his classes. He gets them soccer tickets, stickers, food, and even bought one girl soccer cleats and goalie gloves so she could play on the school team. He makes learning fun, even when they are doing serious topics like learning about the Holocaust. His class even got to have a video meeting with a Holocaust survivor. The fact that he chooses to teach in some of the toughest neighborhoods and most needy children is a testament on how much he cares, and his kids know it and are always smiling when they come into his room.
