The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is the agency that sets the standards and oversees the moving industry.  It publishes several documents that help you understand what to look for and expect from your mover, such as getting a written quote for your move and understanding who pays in case your things are lost during the move. It also explains what you as a consumer need to do to assure that your move goes smoothly.
