We had another group of amazing nominees for our December Community Smiles prize, and it’s been incredible to read all about the nominees and why they put a smile on your face. We’re excited to announce Phil Postier as the December winner of our Community Smiles prize: a $1,000 Visa gift card and a Smile Appreciation Basket filled with goodies!

Postier is a teacher and volunteer with Best Buddies Nevada, a nonprofit that is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Their programs empower the special abilities of people with IDD by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society.

Postier also serves as the Best Buddies Chapter Advisor at Green Valley High School, where he teaches Special Education and is a hands-on mentor for his students. He was the first person who came to mind to nominate, according to Michele Vogan, Deputy Director of Programs and Operations for Best Buddies Nevada.

“Phil had just called me asking to help him find some beds for one of his students with a disability whose family was in need,” said Vogan. “This was the last day of school before the holiday break, and he was heading to furniture places to find beds for this family on his own time. This kind and generous act should not go unnoticed. It motivated me to look for ways to recognize him.”

Postier’s students say he’s like a father to them, and it was their praise of his teaching and mentorship that played a big part in his win, according to Maggie Kolesar, general sales manager for Move 4 Less.

“We think it’s important to recognize those who do kind deeds and make people happy, especially when they least expect it,” said Kolesar. “Phil Postier is a great example of an everyday hero who not only makes people smile, but also makes our community a better place to live.”

Congratulations to Phil Postier for winning the second of our three Community Smiles nominations, and thank you for all that you do in giving back to the Las Vegas community! Don’t forget to keep an eye out for updates about our third and final Community Smiles winner for January!

At Move 4 Less, our motto is “Smile! It’s Moving Day,” and we’re incredibly thankful for those who selflessly give back and make our community smile.
